Anwar decides to contest in Kulim Bandar Baru

KULIM, July 27 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to contest in Kulim Bandar Baharu parliamentary by-election.

He has set his eyes on the Kulim Bandar Baru seat which is pending on an election court's decision on Aug 19 to decide whether there is a need for a by-election. The petition was made by Umno-Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir against winner PKR's Zulkifli Noordin.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader said he had consulted other Pakatan Rakyat leaders Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and they had promised to give him full support.

"I have my doubt about an hour ago but now, God willing, yes (I will contest here)," he declared to thousands of his cheering multiracial crowd who packed the hall at the Chinese Recreational Club here in Kedah.

The night before in Kuala Lumpur Anwar had said he was mulling between Kulim and Bandar Tun Razak in his attempt to make an official political comeback.
