Kedah Gerakan Youth backs BN pullout

Kedah Gerakan Youth has echoed the call by Perak Gerakan for the party to pull out of Barisan Nasional.

Its new Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said this was necessary if the coalition could not defend the rights of all races.

He called on the party’s national leaders to make a stand on the need to protect the rights of all Malaysians.

“This matter must be studied carefully from all angles,” he said after the party’s Youth delegates’ conference on Thursday night.

Tan, who won the post unopposed, also called on the Government to use part of the petroleum subsidy to set up an institution of higher learning to provide free education for all Malaysians.

In an immediate response to the call to pull out of Barisan, Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon urged members to think objectively.

He said they should not decide based on emotions.

“If we have differences in opinion, w
e can discuss,” he said, adding he would hold closed-door discussions in all the states to discuss current issues.

Newly elected state Gerakan chief Dr Cheah Soon Hai, who is Derga assemblyman, said Tan’s call to pull out of Barisan was his personal opinion.
