Update Crossover: No crossover meetings held by BN parties

KUALA LUMPUR: No press conferences were called Friday afternoon by the Barisan Nasional component parties said to be announcing their crossovers to Pakatan Rakyat.

A SMS is being widely circulated that Gerakan, PPP, Sabah Progressive Party, Liberal Democratic Party, Parti Bersatu Sabah, SPDP and UPKO would be crossing over to Pakatan.

The SMS had claimed that the officials of the seven parties would be meeting at their respective headquarters to announce their withdrawal from Barisan.

The SMS claimed this would be the first block crossovers to Pakatan to enable it to form the next government.

Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who is in Kota Baru, confirmed his party did not have such a meeting Friday.

PPP president Datuk M. Kayveas also denied holding such a meeting.

In Kota Kinabalu, party leaders of PBS, LDP, SAPP and Upko said they had not held any meetings on such a matter.

PBS Information Chief Datuk Johnny Mositun described the SMS as ridiculous and an irresponsible act to confuse the people.

"I guess it is part of a gimmick to this so-called Sept 16 new government formation," he added.

SAPP secretary-general Datuk Richard Yong said there was no such thing as the party scheduling a press conference to withdraw from Barisan.

Upko secretary-general Datuk Wilfred Tanggau laughed when asked about the matter.

"This is mischievous ... no such thing," he said.

LDP president Datuk V.K.Liew said: "There is nothing to be paranoid about (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim’s attempt to form the government through this senseless and undemocratic means. "The SMS is revolting to LDP as it is a cheap trick," he added.
