Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar issued a stern warning yesterday against a group who had threatened to hold a demonstration, in the nude, against the Selangor government.
"We will take firm action against any NGO that holds a gathering without a permit, what more with nude persons," he said, according to Bernama.
Khalid was reacting to a news report by Malay daily Sinar Harian on the threats made by a group known as Gerakan Reformis Rakyat Malaysia (Reformis).
Reformis president Ramlan Abu Bakar said the demonstration would take place in front of the Sultan Salahudin Abdul Aziz Shah (SSAS) building, which houses the state assembly and the Menteri Besar's office.
'MB Doesn't Live Up To Promise'
The group was reportedly strongly against the state government's decision to raise the monthly rental of government-owned flats, better known as Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPRT) from RM124 to RM250.
"The people wanted change and now Selangor is governed by Pakatan Rakyat which entrusted Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Menteri Besar.
"However (the state government slogan) ‘Selangor Maju, Rakyat Mewah' (A developed Selangor, its people will prosper) is only for Khalid and the wealthy," said Ramlan.
"As members of the public who don't have any other avenue to influence Khalid's administration, and as a form of criticism, Reformis will hold a naked protest as a last resort to ensure that Pakatan remains in the heart of the Selangor people," he added.
Ramlan said that a memorandum detailing Reformis' demands would be submitted to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

November, 1975)
