Malaysiakini - Seluar Dalam Pembantu Rumah

Seluar dalam rupa-rupanya bukan lagi sekadar pakaian kerana ia juga berfungsi sebagai 'tempat' paling selamat' bagi segelintir pembantu rumah menyembunyikan barangan majikan yang dicuri.

Mereka dipercayai menyimpan barangan kemas dan wang majikan dalam seluar itu bagi mengelak majikan menemuinya semula di tempat lain.

Taktik itu terbongkar apabila seorang pembantu rumah terpaksa menceritakan kepada majikannya bahawa seluar dalam seperti itu memang ada digunakan oleh sesetengah pembantu rumah dari Indonesia .

Wanita itu terpaksa mendedahkan rahsia tersebut selepas dia sendiri disoal-siasat oleh majikannya, seorang pensyarah universiti yang hanya mahu dikenali sebagai Faridah, 50.

"Saya dah banyak kali menjadi mangsa sehingga memaksa saya membuat pemeriksaan mengejut ke atas pembantu rumah baru-baru ini selepas barang kemas dan wang dalam beg duit saya hilang.

"Akhirnya saya jumpa seluar dalam berzip dan di situ dia menyimpannya, '' kata Faridah baru-baru ini.

Beliau menceritakan, pembantu rumahnya itu mengakui seluar dalam itu satu cara yang selamat dan berkesan untuk menyimpan barang curi.

"Saya pernah hilang cincin berlian berharga RM19,000 tetapi gagal menemui semula walaupun semua ahli keluarga menyelongkar bilik pembantu rumah.

"Satu-satu tempat tidak periksa ialah pada bahagian bawah badannya dan pada waktu itu saya tidak mengetahui dia memakai seluar dalam berzip,'' katanya dengan menambah, pembantu rumahnya itu sempat melarikan diri selepas itu.

Jangan lepas ni ada pulak "bapak-bapak" yang ambik kesempatan "memeriksa" seluar dalam pembantu rumah depa sudahhh... ini amat membahayakan institusi rumahtangga...

Is Telekom Malaysia trying to kill REDtone?

The Second Finance Minister, Datuk Nor Mohd Yakcop gave a most unsatisfactory reply in Parliament yesterday to the mountain of questions by MPs, mostly from Pakatan Rakyat, about the award of the RM11.3 billion High Speed Broadband (HSBB) monopoly to Telekom Malaysia, together with a RM2.4 billion subsidy with taxpayers’ money.

I stood up during thd 2009 Budget debate on the Finance Ministry to ask whether the government is prepared to review its award of the HSBB project to Telekom Malaysia or to allow the building of another HSBB network as there is an offer by another company to do so without a single sen of subsidy in order to promote broadband liberalization and enhance competition.

To this question and those by other MPs on the rationale of awarding the HSBB to Telekom which will encourage Telekom monopoly and discourage broadband liberalisation, Nor Mohd gave an ambivalent reply saying that the government was prepared to review the HSBB project if necessary – which means nothing at all.

Either the government is reviewing the HSBB project awarded to Telekom towards calling for a proper tender to be called or it is not reviewing at all!

The arguments for and against the RM11.3 billion HSBB award to Telekom Malaysia and the government subsidy of RM2.4 billion had been canvassed in Parliament during the winding-up by the Energy, Water and Communications Minister Dato Shaziman bin Abu Mansor in the 2009 Budget policy debate on November 3, 2008.

All the questions and issues which I had posed on Nov. 3 remain unanswered, whether by Shaziman at the time or by Nor Mohd yesterday, despite the latter’s promise to have “a review if necessary” but no commitment of any review!

Finally, we were back to square one when Nor Mohd said he would revert back to the Energy, Water and Communications Minister on the issue!

I maintain what I said on Nov. 3 and yesterday in Parliament – that Telekom Malaysia must bear the greatest responsibility for Malaysia’s failure to become a broadband power, left far behind in the past decade by other countries when Malaysia had started on an equal broadband footing with them.

South Korea has now a broadband penetration rate of 93 per cent and Hong Kong at 30 per cent, as compared to Malaysia’s 17 per cent which includes Malaysia’s most extraordinary “low broadband speed”!

I had said on Nov. 3 that Telekom Malaysia had acted as an absolute bully in refusing to open up the last mile copper to allow other industry players to buy the “last mile” at a fair price and thus promote a full liberalisation of the telco industry.

This monopoly has not only allowed Telekom Malaysia to have a stranglehold on the other industry players, it has been most costly to the country in terms of lost GDP in tens of billion of ringgit in the past decade, business competitiveness as well as more efficient public service delivery.

I had even asked whether it was true that Telekom Malaysia was trying to “kill” REDtone because the latter was too aggressive.

Exco S'gor ditahan, dibebas dengan jaminan polis

Polis menahan exco Kerajaan Selangor, Ronnie Liu sewaktu tiba di bangunan Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri (SUK) di Shah Alam tengah hari tadi.

Ronnie ditahan berhubung laporan polis yang mendakwa beliau menghalang tugas pegawai penguatkuasa Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) dalam satu operasi mencegah maksiat di sebuah hotel di Puchong tahun lalu, kata seorang lagi exco negeri, Elizabeth Wong.

Ronnie yang ahli Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (Adun) Pandamaran ditahan oleh anggota polis di pintu masuk ke bangunan tersebut pada kira-kira jam 2 petang.

Beliau ditahan ketika dalam perjalanan untuk menghadiri mesyuarat exco negeri.

Ronnie kemudiannya dibawa ke balai polis Puchong.

Elizabeth yang menyaksikan Ronnie ditahan berkata, Ronnie dijangka didakwa di mahkamah majlis Petaling Jaya Isnin depan.

Ronnie kemudiannya dibebaskan dengan jaminan polis pada jam kira-kira 3.15 petang.

Beliau juga telah diarahkan hadir di mahkamah majistret Petaling Jaya Isnin ini.

YB Ronnie Liu ditahan polis dipejabat bangunan SUK petang tadi.

Penahanannya dipercayai ada kaitan dengan laporan polis yang dibuat terhadapnya berkenaan dengan serbuan ketika operasi mencegah pelacuran disebuah hotel di Pucong tidak lama dahulu.

Mahkamah arah dua komputer Raja Petra dianalisis semula

PETALING JAYA: Pihak pendakwa berjaya dalam permohonan untuk mendapatkan perintah mahkamah supaya seorang penyiasat forensik komputer menganalisis semula dua buah komputer yang dirampas daripada pengendali laman web Malaysia Today, Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin.

Hakim Mahkamah Sesyen, Rozina Ayob membenarkan permohonan pendakwa yang dikemukakan di bawah Seksyen 425 Kanun Prosedur Jenayah bagi tujuan tersebut.

Rozina berkata, beliau membenarkan permohonan pendakwa raya untuk mendapatkan dokumen-dokumen yang tidak dibuka oleh saksi ketujuh, penyiasat forensik, ASP Wa’ie Isqal Kria Abdullah, 38, semasa membuat analisis.

"Ia perlu dilakukan dengan kehadiran kedua-dua pihak termasuk yang tertuduh," kata beliau.

Menurut Rozina, mahkamah perlu menilai kesemua bukti yang terdapat dalam kedua-dua komputer demi keadilan.

"Ia untuk mendapat keadilan," kata beliau pada hari kelapan kes hasutan hari ini.

Permohonan itu dikemukakan oleh ketua pasukan pendakwa Ishak Mohd Yusof semalam selepas ASP Wa'ie mengaku bahawa telah mengesan beberapa bahagian dalam kedua-dua komputer tetapi tidak membuka dan membawa fail-fail berkenaan kerana mematuhi arahan pegawai penyiasat DSP Mahfuz Abdul Majid.

Ho kemudian menetapkan sambuangan perbicaraan mulai 16 Disember.

(Bahaya nih..!)Gun sales surge after Obama's election

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Bernie Conatser has never seen business this good.

The owner of a gun shop in the Washington suburb of Manassas, Virginia, Conatser said sales have doubled or tripled since this time last year.

On Saturday, he said, he did as much business as he would normally do in a week.

"I have been in business for 12 years, and I was here for Y2K, September 11, Katrina," Conatser said, as a steady stream of customers browsed what remained of his stock. "And all of those were big events, and we did notice a spike in business, but nothing on the order of what we are seeing right now."

Weapons dealers in much of the United States are reporting sharply higher sales since Barack Obama won the presidency a week ago.

Buyers and sellers attribute the surge to worries that Obama and a Democratic-controlled Congress will move to restrict firearm ownership, despite the insistence of campaign aides that the president-elect supports gun rights and considers the issue a low priority.

According to FBI figures for the week of November 3 to 9, the bureau received more than 374,000 requests for background checks on gun purchasers -- a nearly 49 percent increase over the same period in 2007. Conatser said his store, Virginia Arms Company, has run out of some models -- such as the AR-15 rifle, the civilian version of the military's M-16 -- and is running low on others.

Such assault weapons are among the firearms that gun dealers and customers say they fear Obama will hit with new restrictions, or even take off the market.

Virginia gun owner Kyle Lewandowski said he was buying a .45-caliber pistol to "hedge my bets."

"Every election year, you have to worry about your rights being eroded a little bit at a time," he said. "I also knew, because of the Democrat majority and because of the election, everybody would have the same reaction I did," he added.

But Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, called the buying spree "goofy." He said widespread talk of banning guns is a "sales pitch."

"With the glacial speed that we make progress on sensible gun laws, savvy gun consumers should know better than to think they have to rush out and buy guns," Hamm said. Similar surges accompanied the election of Bill Clinton, the last Democratic president, he added.

Dealers in Colorado, Ohio, Connecticut and New Hampshire also reported seeing major increases.

"It's a fact that the liberal Democrats that now control all three branches of our government do not like guns. They want us out of business," Connecticut resident Scott Hoffman said. "They don't want the average American to have a right to defend themselves."

And New Hampshire gun owner Lloyd Clement said, "I think there's going to be an attack to some degree on the gun owners."

The Clinton administration imposed a ban on several types of military-style semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines in 1994, but that ban was allowed to lapse in 2004. Obama has proposed restoring the ban, requiring background checks for buyers at gun shows, and other "common-sense measures."

He has said he supports the rights of local governments to set their own gun laws, but believes the Second Amendment to the Constitution protects individual gun rights.

"I believe the Second Amendment means something. I do think it speaks to an individual right," Obama said in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in February.

With the U.S. economy in a tailspin, however, the president-elect's advisers say gun legislation is not a high priority.

"What people do is their own business, and if they decide to go out and buy guns they'll go out and buy guns, assuming that they are eligible to buy guns," John Podesta, the co-chairman of Obama's transition team, told reporters Sunday. "But I think that President-elect Obama has been clear in his campaign that what he wants to focus on is the economy, trying to get jobs growing again, dealing with the health care crisis, and dealing with our dependence on foreign oil."

Some customers are stocking up specifically on ammunition and point to concerns raised by the National Rifle Association, which ran anti-Obama ads during the campaign.

The NRA said Obama would support a "huge new tax on my guns and ammo," referencing a 1999 article in a Chicago newspaper saying the then-Illinois state senator promoted a plan to increase federal taxes by 500 percent on the sales of firearms and ammunition.

But as a state legislator, Obama would not have had any control over federal taxes. And as a U.S. senator and presidential candidate, he has not introduced or promoted such a proposal.

"I don't really believe it is fear. It is more there is just uncertainty," said Virginia customer David Reynolds, who was buying ammunition in the store as well as ordering more online.

"You know, we don't really know what is going on," he said. "There really hasn't been a lot of clear direction on where he supports it, although he says he supports the Second Amendment. But it just remains to be seen. I think some people are just uncomfortable with what his policy may be."

Elaun Guru Agama Di Wilayah Persekutuan Dinaikkan Ke RM1,000-RM1,200 Mulai Januari 2009

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 Nov (Bernama) -- Elaun guru Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) dan Kelas Fardu Ain (KAFA) di Wilayah Persekutuan dinaikkan kepada RM1,000 hingga RM1,200 sebulan mulai 1 Januari depan, kata Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Beliau berkata elaun guru itu, yang pada masa kini kira-kira RM500 sebulan, tidak dinaikkan sejak 22 tahun lepas.

Katanya mereka layak diberi elaun yang setimpal memandangkan kadar inflasi yang meningkat setiap tahun dan ia juga adalah penghargaan dan pengiktirafan kepada pejuang Islam.

"Kenaikan ini kerana menyedari selama ini paras gaji dan kedudukan pegawai agama (guru agama) tidak mendapat pengitirafan yang sepatutnya, dan terlalu berhati-hati untuk membelanjakan gaji atau elaun kepada mereka yang menegakkan syiar Islam," katanya kepada pemberita selepas merasmikan Majlis Ihtifal Perdana dan penyampaian Sijil Tadika Islam Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (JAWI) dan Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) di sini, Rabu.

Majlis yang julung kali diadakan di Wilayah Persekutuan itu dihadiri seramai 2,900 orang pelajar daripada 5,662 Tadika Islam JAWI dan MAIWP menamatkan alam tadika.

Ahmad Zahid, yang juga Pengerusi MAIWP, berkata oleh kerana kutipan zakat MAIWP telah mencecah RM200 juta setahun maka adalah munasabah guru-guru berkenaan mendapat kenaikan elaun.

Sehubungan itu, katanya, negeri-negeri lain digalakkan mencontohi MAIWP untuk menaikkan kadar elaun bagi guru SRA dan KAFA di bawah jabatan agama Islam negeri masing-masing.

Ahmad Zahid berkata sebanyak 625 jawatan guru tadika di Wilayah Persekutan diperlukan dalam tempoh lima tahun akan datang (sehingga 2012) bagi menampung keperluan guru sedia ada yang pada masa kini seramai 278 orang.

Beliau berkata MAIWP juga akan menaiktaraf Tadika Islam JAWI dan MAIWP yang kini berjumlah sebanyak 78 buah.

"Kalau selama ini tadika Islam hanya menumpang di masjid-masjid, flat-flat dan dewan orang ramai yang mana strukturnya jarang-jarang sekali memenuhi ciri-ciri keselamatan pelajar, maka premis-premis tadika Islam yang lebih baik dan mesra akan dibangunkan," katanya.

Non-Malay PM is possible but not multiracial party, says Dr M

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today it is possible for anyone including the non-Malays to be the Prime Minister, but he warned against harping on the issue of having a non-Malay PM because that would itself be racist.

"When you talk about a non-Malay PM, you are being racist, because you shouldn't ask the question whether a Malay or non-Malay can be PM. Here everyone can become Prime Minister, but he must be a leader of the majority party," said Mahathir after delivering a keynote address entitled Bangsa Malaysia at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here.

He claimed that the situation in Malaysia was different from that of Singapore.

"It's very clear when (Singapore Prime Minister, Lee) Hsien Loong said non-Chinese cannot be the PM, they are very open, of course we say one thing, we do another thing," said Mahathir.

However he said Malaysia is not ready to have a truly multiracial political party.

"It doesn't work, every multiracial party is dominated by one race, like Gerakan and DAP. Even PAP in Singapore is not multiracial," said Mahathir.

He added even the opposition parties have failed to prove they are multiracial despite their repeated claims that racial politics has ended.

He said that the failure during his administration to unite vernacular and national schools under one roof is evidence that the people are not ready to be united.

On the imminent economic crisis Mahathir said the problem can only be solved with international cooperation.

"I can assure this is very difficult to handle. I have no confidence in Obama, what about Najib. This is too big for Obama and Najib. We need to change the system, to change the system, we need international cooperation," said Mahathir.

He said that the present system is open to all kinds of abuses.

"You have to have a system that is more solid, based on something that is more tangible. All currencies of the world were pegged to gold. But when the US decided to go off the gold, that is when things go out of control, because you can print any amount of money without any backing," said Mahathir.
